Springing Into Science-Blog Hop
“It is spring again. The
earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke

It’s
finally here! Spring!! The days are getting warmer, the birds are singing and
flowers are popping up everywhere!
Spring
is such a busy time at home and at school. Between DIBELS, the SLO Test, Math
Quarterlies and anything else I am forgetting spring is hectic! The kiddos are
growing restless; they want to be outside in the sunshine! Since we can’t spend
the whole day outside, I try to bring some outside in.
We
have been learning all about plants, what they need, how they grow, etc. This
is one of my favorite things to do with kindergarteners’ because they get so
excited! It is pretty amazing that a tiny little seed can produce a beautiful
flower.
We
read many books about plants and seeds. These two are my favorite. “Sunflower House”
is a fun rhyming book that the kids really enjoy. “How Does a Seed Grow” shows
various seeds and gets the students thinking.
We planted yellow sunflowers.
We used two clear cups and some tape to create a "green house".
We
also used some decorative tape and popsicle sticks to make plant markers.
Finally
we created and labeled a flower. This was so much fun! I love how unique they
all look.

Liebster Award
I am so
happy to announce that I have been nominated for the Liebster Award by Kelsey
from Aloha to Kindergarten.
This award is given to up-and-coming bloggers who have fewer
than 200 followers as a way to welcome them to the blogosphere! How nice!
As a nominee, my job is to answer Kelsey's questions and share
11 random facts about myself before nominating five other new bloggers!
Here are Kelsey's questions and my answers:
1. What
grade do you teach? What grades have you taught? How long have you been
teaching?
I
currently teach kindergarten. I have only ever taught kindergarten! I have been
teaching for 5 years.
2.
Which book do you read to your class every year without fail?
JunieB. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus! It’s a favorite!
3. If
you weren't a teacher, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t
a teacher I would be a baker or a restaurant owner. I love to cook and create new
dishes. Baking is a stress reliever.

I want
my class to have a set of matching tee shirts, so that we can wear them during assemblies
and field trips.
5.
What's your non-teaching guilty pleasure?
My
guilty pleasure is shopping, I love browsing and finding something new. It doesn’t
matter if it’s the grocery store, antique store, thrift shop or the mall. I
just love finding new treasures.

is your favorite book that is not teaching related?
My all-time
favorite book is The Giver. I love reading dystopian books.

I want to travel to every continent. I have
been to Europe, Mexico, Canada, but I have so many more places to visit.
8. What
is your favorite restaurant?
I have
to say my parent’s restaurant Delish Café because I eat there at least once a
day! I also love the local sushi place Umi Grill, I could eat sushi everyday if
it wasn’t so darn expensive.
9. Who
would play you in a movie about your life?
Rashida Jones or
Mila Kunis
10.
What's one thing you could eat every day?
Sushi
or shrimp.

What inspired you to start blogging?
I was

Cookies and Canvas
I love art! I am not very good at it but I do love to try and create it. Once a month I attended Wine and Canvas. It's an opportunity to relax, have a glass of wine, and attempt to create something beautiful. Here is a picture if my latest painting. I love the colors! It fits perfectly in my classroom.
The neat thing about Wine and Canvas is that they offer a children's version called Cookies and Canvas. My coworker and friend Kelsey from Aloha to Kindergarten and I wanted to bring this program to our school. We had a portion of the proceeds support our school philanthropy The Backpack Program. Here are some pictures from Cookies and Canvas, we are looking forward to doing another one soon!!
